With the continuous growth and advancement of the information and communication industry coupled with the high intensity of competition in the business environment, competitive intelligence plays an important role in today’s organisation. Competitive intelligence is a process by the key management people in the organisation to assess the growth and development of an industry and assess its capabilities and behavior of the existing and new competitors in an effort to maintain or sustain the competitive edge of an organisation. Consequently, information science plays an important role in providing fundamental input towards more effective planning and decision making in the organisation’s business activities.
This programme is developed by OUM in collaboration with the University of Paul Cezanne, Marseille, France to meet the needs of the industry of having professionals with the expertise in competitive intelligence. To ensure high quality best practices are adopted in sync with the established theories, this programme also incorporated the leading institution in managing information science through the application of SPSS software.

GMIU 5103: Organizing Competitive Intelligence
The first step in creating a Competitive Intelligence Unit in an organisation is the Audit step which analyzes all the whereabouts of the information circuits and uses in the organisation. In the upstream stage, a careful analysis of the vision of the company through the CEO should be made. The integration of these decision makers in the Unit process is fundamental. The steps which will be followed include Information audit, debriefing of the audit, analysis of results, projection and cost of the unit, facilities (networks, internet hosts and computer), labour force, technical and economic competencies, human networks, interaction of the competitive intelligence unit with tacit organisational knowledge, outputs from the unit, and final design of the unit.
